Badminton Top Players

Among the many players in any sport only an elite few can truly be considered the cream of the crop. Badminton is no different, so today we will take a minute to look at the best in this Olympic class sport.

Mens Singles

Chong Wei Lee is the number one player in the world of mens Badminton. The nine year veteran out of Malaysia has won a combined total of 27 titles and ended the Olympic medal drought in Malaysia by taking the silver medal in the 2008 Beijing games.
Ranked number one since August of 2008 Chong Wei Lee represents the best in mens Shuttling today.
Despite his accolades he is still hunting for the coveted BWF gold, his best finish netting him a bronze in the event during 2005.

Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark is ranked as the number two player in world according to the BWF rankings. A perennial contender Gade has won numerous championships and has participated in thee Olympic games, falling short in each of those three. However in all three game he found himself losing to the eventual champion. Well into his thirties he remains one of the best players in the game.

Ladies Singles

Yihan Wang of China is currently ranked number one in Badminton women singles. Considered one of the rising stars in Badminton she is coached by two time Olympic gold medalist Zhang Ning. She has won multiple titles of her own and her star only seems to be on the rise.

Saina Nehwal is the number two ranked female Badminton player and made history as the first Indian to win a super series tournament when she knocked off Chinese born Wang Lin to take the Indonesian open in 2009 and then taking the Singapore open as well as another Indonesian open in 2010 helped lift her to the worlds number two ranking.

With many tournaments still set to take places this year, and rankings constantly changing it is hard to say who is the best, however these players truly are part of sports elite competitors. These are just a few of Badminton star contenders, with young up and comers, and well versed veterans clawing at the rankings we can only watch and see who emerges as the best.
